There are six (6) categories of membership – Full, Associate, Affiliate, Commercial, Life and Honorary. A Full Member is:
A professional nurse who is resident in South Africa and undertook and passed the SANC registered ETNEP or has passed a SASA recognised course of no less than three hundred and twenty (320) hours and completed a year’s internship.
A person who was accepted as a Full member under the “Grandfather Clause” on the 18th November 1978.
A Full member is required to pay dues and shall have all the privileges of membership, including making motions, voting, holding office and wearing the stomaltherapy course badge
An Associate Member is:
A professional nurse who is resident in South Africa and who has not yet undertaken and passed the SANC registered ETNEP or has passed a SASA recognised course of no less than three hundred and twenty (320) hours and completed a year’s internship.
A professional person currently in practice in the categories of nursing, medicine or allied health disciplines not fulfilling the criteria for Full membership but having an interest in the activities of SASA.
An Associate member is required to pay dues but does not have the privileges of holding office or wearing the stomaltherapy course badge but may make motions and vote.
An Affiliate Member is:
Any person who has an interest in stoma care and who resides outside the Republic of South Africa. At the discretion of the Board, the Affiliate Member may be required to pay a proportion of the dues.
A Commercial Member is:
Any company within the medical supply industry who is interested in and supportive of the objectives of SASA. A commercial member is required to pay dues and does not have privileges of holding office or wearing the stomaltherapy course badge but may make motions and vote.
Each company will have a representative who may vote on behalf of that company. There may only be one (1) vote per company.
Life Membership is:
Bestowed upon a Full or Associate member recommended and approved by the Board who has made an exceptional contribution to stomaltherapy nursing and/or has served on the Board or committees in an exemplary manner and/or has made an outstanding contribution to the WCET.
Life members shall not pay dues but shall have all the privileges of membership, including making motions, voting, holding office and wearing the stomaltherapy course badge.
Honorary Membership is:
Bestowed upon a person whom the Board wishes to recognise for their support of and contribution to stomaltherapy and/or SASA, and who is not a stomaltherapist.
An Honorary member shall not be required to pay dues and shall have all the privileges of membership other than those of making motions, voting, holding office and wearing the membership badge.
